Moving to Taylors, SC

A closer look at Taylors.

Start with the places you need to get to, then take a hard look at the house and the lot. The street, the upkeep, and the drive will tell you more about living in Taylors than a mailing address does. The brick building in the photo is part of Taylors Mill.

Taylors, at a glance.

The short version, from the Census and the County.

County

Greenville County only. The County adopted a community plan for Taylors in September 2016.

City or community

Unincorporated. The 2020 Census counted 23,222 people in the Taylors Census-designated place.

ZIP codes

Mostly 29687. Small edges fall in 29609, 29615, and 29650, so check the exact address.

Population is the 2020 Census count for the Taylors Census-designated place. County, ZIP-area and school-district lines are from 2020 Census geography, and the plan date is from Greenville County. Checked September 26, 2026.

Try an ordinary day here.

If you’re comparing Taylors with Greenville or Greer, use the same destinations for each. Drive to work, make a grocery stop, and return to the home. If Wade Hampton Boulevard is part of your route, test its turns at the times you’d use them.

Give yourself time outside, too. Walk the street if walking matters to you. Look at the driveway, shade, drainage, and the parts of the yard you’d use. A covered porch and a larger yard can be appealing for different reasons; each comes with its own questions about upkeep.

Tell me what you want room for. Then we can decide which homes deserve a closer look.

Look closely at the house and the land.

Four things I’d look at before you fall for a Taylors house.

01

The house itself

Ask about the roof, heating and cooling, electrical work, and changes to the layout. For an older or renovated home, request available permits and repair records, then let the inspection guide the next questions.

02

The ground around it

Look at slopes, water paths, retaining walls, and access to the yard. Ask where the property lines and easements fall before assuming the open space is yours to change.

03

Who serves the house

Ask which companies provide water, sewer or septic, power, trash pickup, and internet at this exact address, and ask for their records. Don’t assume every Taylors address has the same providers.

04

Next door and down the road

Look at the land next to the house, not just your own lot. Ask the planning office that handles the parcel what’s been requested nearby.

Property records and planning tools for Taylors.

These are the records and tools I’d start with for a Taylors home.

Property & jurisdiction

Begin with the parcel

A Taylors mailing address doesn’t settle jurisdiction. Check the parcel record to see which planning office handles the property, then confirm taxes for the home you’re considering.

Greenville County Real Property
Planning

Read the Taylors Community Plan (adopted in 2016)

The plan shows the County’s long-range goals for the area. It doesn’t tell you what’s been approved for a specific property.

School assignment

One address at a time

Check the district lookup and confirm questions directly with Greenville County Schools. Do this for the specific home, even when two listings appear to be in the same neighborhood.

Plan a visit to Paris Mountain

If access to trails is part of the move, include Paris Mountain State Park in your visit. Use the park’s own information for current hours, admission, and trail conditions, then test the drive from the house.

Taylors questions.

Start with the first two if you’re new to the area.

Taylors’ main ZIP code is 29687. Census 2020 ZIP-area data puts most of the Taylors census place in that area, with small portions in other ZIP areas. Taylors isn’t an incorporated town, and a mailing ZIP doesn’t settle school assignment. Check the specific address.

What is Taylors Mill?

It’s the old Southern Bleachery, a textile plant that opened in 1924 and ran until 1965. The complex was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2012. Greenville County’s Taylors plan says the Bleachery’s opening brought a mill village, with housing, a school, and a church. Today the mill buildings hold a brewery, a restaurant, and dozens of other small businesses.
